Electricity has become one of the necessities of life. All of the household appliances run on electricity. Its importance became even more vital during the pandemic when the work was online. Providing electricity is the responsibility of the local electricity board of the area in which you live. Among Texas’s many electricity providers, Gexa Energy (has discounted rates on Home Energy Club) has earned a solid reputation for reliability by providing customers with competitive pricing and helpful tools for managing their use and preventing unexpectedly high bills. Moreover, if unsatisfied, you can switch to a different plan during the first 60 days. For the service they provide, you must make an electricity bill payment to them.

Electricity Bills And How Do They Work?

Electricity bills are the bills that you pay for the consumption of electricity. When you get the electricity connection to your household, the electricity board provides you with the electric meter. This meter maintains the steady flow of the current to your house, so no mishap happens to you. Aside from this, it also keeps track of the electricity that your household consumes. The consumption is denoted by the units. You get the electricity bill depending on the units of electricity that your household consumes.

Every month before sending the bill, electricity board personnel take the meter’s reading in the form of photographs. On the basis of that evidence, a bill is sent to you. Every month the same procedure is followed. After the bill is generated, the hardcopy of the bill is sent to every household. You can request a soft copy of the bill or can get it from your electricity board’s official website.

Each bill has two due dates. If you make your electricity bill payment before the first due date, you get Rs. 10 discount. After that, you have to make the full payment of the bill.

Why Should You Pay Your Electricity Bills On Time?

Government makes it mandatory for all consumers to make their electricity bill payments on time.

    • Late fee:

All the electricity boards offer you at least 10 days to make your electricity bill payment. Sometimes you get more due dates depending upon your electricity service provider. If you fail to meet all the due dates, late fees are levied upon you.

    • Additional bill:

If you fail to pay your bill in the earlier month, then that amount is added to the next month’s bill cycle. This is inclusive of the late fee, and sometimes the interest is levied in it. So by skipping one month’s bill, you end up paying an unnecessary additional amount on your electricity bill.

    • Disconnecting of the electricity supply:

Electricity board officials keep track of all the regulars who pay their bills on time and the others who default on time. If a consumer fails to pay the bill for several months, then they are served with the notice to make an electricity bill payment. If they do not pay their bill even after the notice, then the electricity board discontinues their electricity services.

    • Reconnection charges:

When the electricity services are discontinued from the electricity board, they take the electricity meter in their possession, and you lose the connection. You get your services restored after paying all the pending dues. When the account is settled from your end, you must pay reconnection charges to get the electricity connection again. You also have to pay the security deposit. If the defaulting amount is big, you must make a new connection. It is a costly as well as time-consuming procedure.

    • Legal action:

Although electricity board officials try to solve the matters on their own, there are certain scenarios in which they seek legal action. This includes defaulters showing no intention of the payment of the dues, if the defaulting amount is huge, or any other illegal activity.

How Can You Pay Your Electricity Bills?

For the consumers’ comfort, electricity boards offer several modes through which you can make your electricity bill payment.

    • Offline:

The offline mode refers to the conventional bill payment procedure that was there before the internet. Some boards send their personnel or accept the payment from one person for the society bill or one area.

      • Visit the office
      • Stand in the queue
      • Make the payment
    • Online:

Another way you can make an electricity bill payment is by visiting the official website of your electricity service provider.

      • Visit their official website
      • Navigate through the website to make the bill payment
      • Mention your consumer number
      • Make a payment with a debit card, credit card, or net banking. The payment is also allowed via UPI ID.
    • Digital wallets:

If you do not like the interface of the website, then you can pay your bills via digital wallets. Multiple wallets ensure the smooth transaction of the bill payment. E.g., You can download or visit the website of MobiKwik. This digital wallet is simple and easy to use. You can use it to make electricity bill payments for the electricity boards like Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for tneb bill payment that provide service to the whole state or particular area of the certain state like for northern Gujrat; you can pay the bill by selecting the Uttar Gujarat electricity service provider for UGVCL bill payment. Aside from this, you can also pay the bills of the private electricity service providers.

    Conclusion

The electricity bill is the reminder that makes it requisite for consumers to pay for the services they consume. Electricity boards are coming up with various methods through which you can make the payment. It is your duty to pay the bills on time and get uninterpreted electricity supply for your household.
