Electricians in Arizona are required to possess a valid electrical license to perform any kind of electrical work within the state. This is the major requirement if you want to work as an electrician in Arizona. The electrical license enables you to get insurance and also work with confidence. You will be able to bid for projects and also have an edge over your competitors. A license is a must if you want to be hired by an electrical company in Arizona.

The Requirements for Getting an Electrical License in Arizona

Arizona doesn’t provide the journeyman electrician license. So, you’ll have to get a general electrician license or a special electrician license depending on the type of electrical work you want to do. For a general electrician license, you’ll have to complete an electrical apprenticeship program approved by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC). The apprenticeship program must be at least four years. You’ll also have to pass an examination conducted by the ROC.

Steps to Get Arizona Electrical License

If you want to become an electrician in Arizona, here are the steps you need to follow:

    1. A high diploma with at least 18 years is required. The applicants should have a GED or an equivalent diploma.
    2. The applicants must have completed an electrical apprenticeship program of at least four years.
    3. After the completion of the apprenticeship program, the applicants must pass an examination conducted by the ROC.
    4. Obtain 900 classroom work hours and 8,000 on-the-job training hours.
    5. After that, the applicants need to submit an application to the ROC along with the required documents and fees.
    6. After the review of your application, the ROC will issue an electrician license to qualified applicants.

How to Obtain an electrician License In Arizona

Getting the Necessary Training: The first step to becoming an electrician in Arizona is to obtain the necessary training. Electricians must complete an accredited four-year apprenticeship program or have at least eight years of experience working as an electrician. Apprenticeship programs typically include 144 hours of classroom instruction and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training each year.

Applying for the License: After completing the necessary training, electricians must then apply for a license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Applicants must submit proof of training and experience, pass an examination, and pay the required fees.

Take the Licensing Exam: The next step is to take and pass the Arizona electrician licensing examination. The examination is administered by Prometric and consists of two parts: a business and law exam and a trade exam. The business and law exam covers topics such as contracts, insurance, lien law, safety, and Arizona business law. The trade exam covers topics such as electrical theory, motors, and generators, wiring methods and materials, the National Electrical Code, and Arizona electrical code.

Examining Authorities: After passing the examination, electricians must then submit to a background check and fingerprinting. The final step is to submit proof of insurance and bond to the Registrar of Contractors.

Renewing the License: Electrician licenses in Arizona must be renewed every two years. Licensees must complete at least 16 hours of continuing education during each renewal period.

    Conclusion

Getting an Arizona electrical license should not be a difficult task as long as you have the necessary training and experience. Be sure to follow the steps outlined above and you should have no problem obtaining your license.
